Adventures Sailing Slog 27/2013

Slog 27/2013

LastWedMost likely the last race of the year. A lousy 80 degrees with a boring 12mph wind from the NNW sailing just off the same old rich people coast as always as 2 personal flying somethings (military green, open cockpit with one pilot each, flexible plane wing but two engines with props that rotated – something like a UK Harrier but not jet) flew over. And then a 4-story high dinner cruise ferry sailed through and around the course so that the paying passengers could watch the pretty sailboats race (no royalty to us!). The hot air balloons were active along the Cascades in the perfect wind conditions as the sun set over the Olympics and the dumb full moon rose. Despite some questionable start decisions and my two crew that knew little about racing (D and J) on Moya – not even my favorite boat – we won more than half the legs and races against 4 good competitors. Five J/22s racing on a Wed. What a great night.

Addendum: they were Ospreys flying over. Also we got in 3 races UD, SLWF, SLWF.
