Flew back to Taipei from Vietnam

Staying a little longer this time in Taiwan, almost a whole week. Enough time to enjoy a few meals including the big important one, and then a long hike to walk off the calories.

This trip was important to me for a lot of reasons. The timing of the trip was dictated by a fast fading chinese tradition of a company meal 尾牙 before the New Year (Rabbit, by the way).
As background, read this post it frames a lot of why this trip was so important to me.
Took the HSR (bullet) train to Taichung and met up with my colleagues and their families. It wasn’t just me wanting to reconnect after COVID, they hadn’t seen each other since our last 尾牙 in 2020.
CNY is much like US Thanksgiving but longer and with a New Year thrown in afterwards. Families travel distances to reconnect usually with the same stressful family dynamics at the dinner table. Fortunately none of that downside for me and my team.

Then the long hike the next day…
Back in the Taipei office Sunday night after my hike, David encouraged me to book travel early before CNY. I checked prices and he was, as usual, right. So spontaneously I am off to Malaysia on the cheapest flight. Malaysia was not on my radar when I left Seattle for Taipei, now I have committed to a week there.
