Adventures Sailing Seahoods – Done

Seahoods – Done

One of my contributions to my sailing club is boat maintenance and improvements. In the middle of the last decade I inherited a project to replace the seahoods on our two J/22s so that we could a have more member-friendly (and faster!) layout of all the sail controls. Color-coded, led to both sides, auto-cleating, etc.  After many design meetings, I finally started this project last spring. We made good progress and did get working versions on both boats and the design was proven correct while racing last summer but there was still work left to do: one boat was about 99% done and the other about 91% done so, on average, about 95% done. Mr 95%…

Inspiredby my thrilling completion of a project last night (tablet surgery), I called in a cohort and got him to commit to finishing this project today. And we did! It took just over 3 hours but both boats are 100% done. To celebrate both boats went out sailing in 16-28mph winds and occasional rain storms (but a warm 55 degrees – so a lot like summer). Fun day.

Gonna keep this ball rolling and try to finish the last 5% of the Coho kayak tomorrow (San Juan Islands trip coming up in April).
