An unexpectedly good night. Sailed with newbies IR and AR (Portugal and Romania) in Gray Jay.
Sail nerd log: East wind at the dock but seemed strong from the N on the lake. 70 with the convergence zone well north. Start line about 80 degrees off, had a good line but forgot Moya would take the wind. Instead of skidding out on us, we got stuffed. Dove and took 10 minutes to cross back over. Invested in the E and still had to tack within 20 boatlengths of the windward mark. Upwind Moya fell off and lost it. E component with a starboard pole meant a quick gybe. New crew handled it great. N wind with E blasts. Etchell was catching us so we tried by the lee a-la-J24. Worked amazing well. Best long downwind leg I remember. Sailed over Zephyr and had a late takedown which forced the Etchell to sail below on the last leg. A drove last two legs++. Last leg the wind kept going E but there was less pressure on the shore so you had to bite it. Still messing with the big boats at the finish so we may have won.
Instead of going up to watch the race on TV and collect our prize(?), I stayed on the dock and watched the sunset. Then was invited to the Slip. Chili fries and 3 IPA so poor judgement after the race but had a great evening.
BTW – downtown Kirkland is so popular, the Zuma is really paying off. So nice to scooter 6~7 minutes.
