Adventures Sailing Friday sailing

Friday sailing

The Friday night races are also called a beer-can series. It is sponsored by a local seafood restaurant/bar. There are usually about 30 boats racing- sometimes more. The boats are handicapped according to performance (lots of measurements go into it). In our one-design class (J/22) the boats are identical and we have our own start. Since we sail against each other all the time we have some very close and exciting starts.

Tonight we (the Club) raced with just 4 people on 2 boats. The wind was pretty strong at the start so we not able to sail to our rating. To make it worse I did a very bad job of sail trim, so JE and I did poorly. But it was a beautiful evening with the full moon rising in the East as the sun took forever to set in the NW this far north. Too busy with the beer can part of racing afterwards to remember to take pictures and the video is not worth watching, it is just some pre-race routine.

You can see the shadow of the camera on my leg in the opening screen.
