Overdid it. Last nice day before a cold front will lower the snow level to sea-level (poor school kids, on the 1st day of a 3-day weekend!), so I went for a hike.
Mt Si. 3,240′ of elevation gain. 2h15m up and 1h50m down. I used to do this hike once a week, now I don’t know how.
Short Vid Dumb New Years revolution.
Wow. I’m still impressed!
And you’d be surprised how much vertical training you get when you live in a town with hills. Trust me on that one.
Question Diane: if the hike was over 7 miles on the map, but it included over a mile of elevation gain and loss, then shouldn’t that be added to the hiking total to make it over 8 miles? Nah, because 8 miles of hiking on flat land would not look as impressive at the profile of this hike. I guess I should just leave it alone. Next time I am going to take my bathroom scale and weigh myself with full pack and lunch at the start of the hike and then again at the end with all the water eco-recycled, sweat sweated and lunch calories burned to see what the difference is. The reason I say this is because I actually weighed 4 lbs more later that night (from taking in liquids to recover).
I’m impressed too. The closest hill is 10 hours away, unless you count the four sets of 13 stairs to my office as a hill–some days I do. For days where I’ve been sick (last week), I was glad my “hill” had an elevator.
