Sailboat race on Lake Washington today – part of the Opening Day weekend festival for boating season.
Sailed with Jorge and Jim G on Gray Jay. The 52o bridge said 18-26mph wind during the race- which overpowers a J/22.
Great start and fair windward leg. Downwind gave the helm away and set the spinnaker. Not well-sailed on this leg because of over-communication and confusion about the race course. No mistakes though.
Upwind leg by Jim – well-sailed. Still confusion about the race course. Downwind did not set the spinnaker and lost ground to everyone. My call my bad.
Lots of cunningham and backstay. Started with eased traveler but it seems to be OK mid-boat too. Fairleads way back – new jib.
Bashed my head during a jibe, but worse hit my knee on the winch during the takedown. But we did not get cold, it did not rain and we went fast. Last in class but middle fleet overall.
Left 2+ minutes out on the course. Mainly the 2nd downwind. Some on the upwinds because the crew would not get on the rail.
