Dumb me – my knee is still red, swollen and sore. Solution? Go sailing some more to see how much it can hurt! Actually I bowed out of serious racing but took the Catalina 22 on my own. I started the race and sailed the upwind leg only. It was another nice night, but cold – about 65 on the water with a bracing breeze.
Since it was the last Friday night of the year we had pizza and drinks afterwards in the ‘Clubhouse’.
I recorded me on the Catalina 22. Almost had a perfect start – I forced 2 boats over early and was 6 seconds away from taking the whole class out. Should have been more aggressive getting my windward space.
Race Notes:
The plan was to go way west on the 1st leg. Thanks to the missed start and a cruising boat that sailed over me I did go over to port twice. That probably helped. Then I went WAY west and it worked. Rounded with Bulllet and Moya. After that I just cruised. DS got burned BAD going E on the leeward and DT gained – difference was probably 12 minutes on a 4 mile leg. Very large difference and this is the end of August with S during the day and gust from the NE during the upwind. Go figure. W still pays.
Video of the start and upwind leg. Nothing noteworthy – just a pleasant sail
11 minutes of sunset
The pictures are from the VidCam in picture mode. Not too bad for a little camera at the end of a handheld stick well after sunset…
