Adventures Hiking,Paddling Lake Padden

Lake Padden

After sailing in the rain last night, it was sunny and 70 today. I strapped the canoe to the Fit (dorky car, cool boat) and went up to Bellingham. Launched at the north end of the lake next to the drunk fishermen (say “Hi” from me). There is a boat launch N mid-lake and apparently there is a parking fee of some kind. The park ranger stopped in front of the car with the lights flashing as I was launching but he was just emptying the garbage. Whew. Need to do more research on that.

Very typical NW lake. Heavily forested. Pretty loop trail around it. Clear water. Bald eagle fishing, blah blah blah. Sunny, fresh breeze. Ho hum.

J was studying for finals and said he could not meet me so I went on Chuckanut to the short (1.3 mile RT) Clayton Beach trail. Again, standard NW stuff – forest, streams, waterfalls, first berries of the season, crabs, rock climbers, parasailors, bush pilot skimming the coast, fighters from Whidbey flying in close formation. Really nothing special.
