Adventures Hiking Microclimes

Microclimes

It is not news to anyone that the West Coast has micro-climates, but it is entertaining (for me) to reiterate what science has known for a long time.  These pictures were taken inside an hour during a 3-hour conditioning hike on Tiger Mt. When I left the parking lot it was 55 degrees and sunny and I felt embarrassingly over-geared. Pah!  8 miles and 2,000 feet elevation gain (which is more than hiking from the lowest point in Nebraska to the highest point – and actually very close to the same elevations)

2:50pm - the rain stopped

3:09pm - fives inches deep. Needed gaiters.

3:27 - I have mowed my yard twice this year.

3:30pm - bundled up and ready to head down

3:48pm - trail lower right
