Time for J/22 racing. It was 75 degrees and sunny with a nice wind but I was not sure if anyone would show up after last time so I took J. DS went out in Moya and at the last moment KH and the DT arrived – so we sailed with 4 on Gray Jay.
Race notes:
Set the course for a start at Houghton Beach so if the wind (NW) went N we could move the start.
Race 1: DT drove. Good start. Started right but then covered.
Race 2: KH. Good start and OK upwind for a while, then we seemed to lose it. Moya made a comeback at the end and we basically tied.
Race 3: Me. Port start in 3rd but kept close to Bullet. 20 boat lengths, gybed early to confuse but it did not work.
Race 4: DT. Tried new method of tacking every 50 seconds. It kept the boats close. Need to start well to not be in bad air. Also, 1/2 the boats should start on port.
J enjoyed it but felt insignificant since there were 3 racers on board already. Celebrated with teriyaki chicken and beef short ribs from Metro.
That is 27 races this year, so it is $20/race. Not including the hundred or so hours donated so far.
No funny stories or pictures – just a really pleasant evening.
(note to self, push END button before power off!)
